Reddit Poll: Which Solid Maine Coon Cat Color Is Your Favorite?
In a unique study conducted on Reddit in October 2023 by Katrina Stewardson, she found that of the 71 Maine Coon cat lovers that voted on what their favorite SOLID Maine Coon fur color was, black Maine Coons were the most popular!
The second most popular color was red (orange).

- 16 voted Red
- 13 voted blue
- 12 voted cream

YouTube Research: Are Maine Coons Waterproof?
Katrina Stewardson, the Director of Maine Coon Central conducted an independent poll on 1st November 2023 on the Maine Coon Central YouTube channel.
Due to widespread inaccuracies found across the internet, this poll was designed to gauge cat lovers understanding of the Maine Coon cat breed’s fur.
Viewers were asked to vote on whether they thought Maine Coon cats were waterproof, or not.
This study aimed to test the users understanding of the Maine Coon cat breed.
The following results were obtained from 37 votes:
- 54% Thought the Maine Coon has semi-waterproof fur (Which IS Correct)
- 38% Said Maine Coons were 100% waterproof (This is NOT correct)
- 8% Of Voters stated that Maine Coonc cats are not waterproof at all (This IS NOT correct).
Where Do Owners Buy Maine Coon Cats?
The safest place to purchase a Maine Coon kitten is from a registered Maine Coon cat breeder, yet the Maine Coon price often leads cat lovers to buy their cats elsewhere.
Katrina Stewardson, the Director of Maine Coon Central, conducted unique research on 150 Maine Coon cat lovers, on Maine Coon Central’s YouTube channel, in October 2023.
She asked a poll of 150 voters where they got their Maine Coon cat from.
The survey revealed:
- 33% of owners purchased their Maine Coon from a Registered Maine Coon cat breeder
- 8% of voters bought a cat from a Non-Registered Maine Coon cat breeder.
A staggering 23% of viewers voted that they found their Maine Coon at a shelter! So, do not give up hope of finding a ‘cheap’ Maine Coon!

YouTube Research: Is Chocolate Harmful For Maine Coon Cats?
In a unique research study conducted by Katrina Stewardson on the Maine Coon Central YouTube channel, in October 2023, viewers were asked if they thought chocolate was harmful to Maine Coon cats.
Of the 189 viewers that entered the poll, 95% of Maine Coon cat lovers were aware that chocolate is harmful to a Maine Coon.
However, 5% of the respondents did not realize the danger chocolate posed to this large cat breed, which was very worrying.
YouTube Research: Do Owners Bathe Their Maine Coon Cat?
Current guidance suggests Maine Coons like water but should not be bathed more than once per month.
Katrina Stewardson, the Director of Maine Coon Central, conducted an independent research poll in November 2023 to determine how many Maine Coon owners bathed their cats.
The aim of this cat research study was to get a better understanding of how cat lovers care for their large cats.
This cat research study found that of 151 cat lovers who voted, 71% of these Maine Coon cat owners did not bathe their Maine Coon, compared to 29% of owners that do.
YouTube Study: Do Maine Coon Cats Shed A Lot?
Maine Coon Central’s cat expert, Katrina Stewardson conducted a poll on YouTube in November 2023.
135 Voters took part in this independent study, where Maine Coon owners were asked how much they thought their Maine Coon cat shed.
The results of this study showed that 44% of voters thought their cat shed ‘medium levels’, compared to 3% of voters who didn’t think their Maine Coon shed at all!
A further 44% of participants ranked Maine Coon shedding between ‘Large – Extreme’ levels.
Only 10% of voters thought their Maine Coon cat shed ‘Small Levels’.
YouTube Cat Research: Have You Heard Of The Himalayan Maine Coon Mix
In November 2023, Katrina Stewardson conducted a study on Maine Coon Central’s YouTube channel. 242 voters were included in this study.
The study aimed to find out how many people had heard of the Himalayan Maine Coon Mix cat.
The findings of this research indicated that the Himalayan Maine Coon Mix cat was not well known, with 85% of voters stating they had not heard of this Maine Coon mix.
Only 15% of voters had heard of the Himalayan Maine Coon Mix cat.
