If you have noticed that most pictures of large Maine Coons are male, then you might ask yourself, what is the average size of a female Maine Coon cat?
Even though Maine Coons are known to be the largest domestic cats in the world, there is a pretty distinct size difference between Maine Coon males and females.
The average female Maine Coon weighs between 8 and 12 pounds. They typically measure a height of 8 to 14 inches and measure a length of about 40 inches. Since male Maine Coons generally weigh 12 to 25 pounds and measure about 10 to 16 inches in height, female Maine Coons are usually much smaller than males.
Many people become interested in the Maine Coon breed due to their massive size, which means they may be less interested in buying a female.
However, female Maine Coons can still reach great sizes, and they still make wonderful companions.
Read on to find out why you should get a female Maine Coon!

Male Vs Female Maine Coon Cat
The first and most obvious difference between male and female Maine Coons is size.
Female Maine Coons usually weigh between 8 and 12 pounds and measure about 8 to 14 inches in height.
So, what is the average size of a male Maine Coon cat?
Male Maine Coons are much larger on average, weighing between 12 and 25 pounds and measuring about 10 to 16 inches tall.
These record-breaking Maine Coon cats have grown even bigger than this though, so be warned!
Another difference between male and female Maine Coons is their playfulness and prey drive.
In the wild, female cats need much stronger hunting instincts, as they must feed both themselves and their kittens.
As a result, female Maine Coons tend to be much more active and driven in hunting. They need to be able to chase and pounce after toys, so they can feel as though they are hunting.
These are my favorite Maine Coon cat toys.
Cuddliness also tends to vary between male and female Maine Coons.
Male Maine Coons tend to be more relaxed and cuddly, while females might be warier or dislike being picked up.
Female Maine Coons can be just as loving as males, especially if they are socialized well from a young age. However, their instincts to protect themselves and their young means they can be a bit more independent and skittish than males.
Finally, female Maine Coons can be more domineering and territorial than males, particularly towards other females.
You should make sure your Maine Coon has its own private space to retreat to if it is feeling overwhelmed, and ensure that it has separate beds and food bowls to avoid any disputes with other cats.
In the wild, female cats need to defend their territory fiercely to protect their young, but this behavior can turn to bullying if they are allowed to establish dominance over other cats in the household.
Overall, a lot of people tend to prefer male Maine Coons over females, since they are more likely to be big and cuddly.
However, female Maine Coons have a lot of charm, too! They tend to have bigger personalities, with a bit more attitude and sass, and they are much more playful.
Of course, these are not hard and fast rules, and you can easily find a male Maine Coon that is playful and independent or a female Maine Coon that is huge and cuddly.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference.

How Do You Measure A Maine Coon Cat?
Measuring your Maine Coon is important to ensure that they are growing at a healthy rate, especially during kittenhood.
Many owners choose to measure their Maine Coon once a month and record the following factors to keep a close eye on their Maine Coon kittens development:
Maine Coons are easygoing, patient creatures, so they tend to do quite well during the measuring process.
However, it is a good idea to get your Maine Coon used to this process from a young age and provide plenty of treats and positive reinforcement to encourage them to stay still.
It may be tempting to measure your cat frequently, especially if you are excited to watch your kitten grow from a tiny baby into a huge Maine Coon cat!
However, measuring too frequently can result in confusing and inconsistent data, since their weight can fluctuate over smaller periods of time.
To avoid confusing data, you should measure your cat once a month, preferably during the same week of each month for the sake of consistency.
How To Measure Cats Weight
To measure your cat’s weight, use a baby scale or postage scale.
This is the easiest measurement to take, as you will not need your cat to stay still for very long.
How To Measure Cats Length
For length, measure from the tip of your cat’s nose to the base of its tail in a straight line.
This is generally easiest if your cat is lying down on the floor, but it can be taken while standing, as well.
How To Measure Cats Height
To measure height, make sure your cat is standing evenly on all four paws.
Then, measure from the top of your cat’s shoulder in a straight line down its front leg to the floor.
This is how you keep a Maine Coon growth chart.
Maine Coon Kitten Vs Normal Kitten
When looking at a Maine Coon compared to normal cat, there are a lot of differences, especially among kittens.
At first, Maine Coon kittens may look just like any other kitten, since their distinctive coats have not grown in yet, and they also have not reached full size.
However, Maine Coon kittens are often much more playful than regular kittens, and they are also typically more intelligent.
They may prefer more complicated games or play longer and harder than other cats.
Furthermore, Maine Coons usually retain this kittenlike playfulness throughout their whole lives, so they usually do not grow out of their playful nature the same way as regular cats.
Maine Coon kittens also grow much more slowly than most cats.
While the average cat reaches its full size after about a year to a year and a half, Maine Coons take three to five years to reach full size!
As a result, Maine Coon kittens need more calories than the average cat, and it is even more important to provide them with a diet that is rich in protein, with a moderate amount of fat and only a small amount of carbohydrates.
At the end of the day, though, regular kittens are playful, curious, and adorable, just like Maine Coons!
If you have seen lots of pictures of enormous male Maine Coons, then you might be left wondering, what is the average size of a female Maine Coon cat?
On average, female Maine Coons are much smaller than males, but they are still usually larger than the average domestic cat.
They also tend to be more playful and independent, but they can be more skittish and territorial, as well.
How Much Is A Maine Coon Cat?
The Maine Coon is an expensive breed, with most cats ranging between $1,000 and $2,500.
